BREAKING: Mexico’s Leader Fires Back at Trump’s Claim on Migration Deal – Denies Agreement Again!
The diplomatic dance between President-elect Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo just took another twist. Hours after Trump announced a deal to “effectively close the southern border” following what he called a “wonderful conversation” with Sheinbaum, the Mexican leader flatly denied any such agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump had confidently stated:
“Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately.”
Sheinbaum, however, painted a different picture. During a press conference, she emphasized that Mexico’s strategy focuses on addressing migration at its root while upholding human rights—not closing borders.
“We reiterate that Mexico’s position is not to close borders but to build bridges between governments and peoples,” Sheinbaum said on X.
This isn’t the first time Trump’s bold claims have clashed with Sheinbaum’s carefully calibrated diplomacy. While she acknowledged an “excellent conversation” with Trump, she clarified that Mexico’s policies remain unchanged, with no plans to implement the drastic measures Trump described.
Adding fuel to the fire, Sheinbaum and her Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard warned that Mexico is ready to retaliate against Trump’s threatened 25% tariffs on Mexican goods. Ebrard criticized the move, calling it “a shot in the foot” that could undermine the USMCA trade deal brokered during Trump’s first presidency.
Meanwhile, Canada is bracing for impact, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holding emergency meetings to strategize a response.
Trump’s hardline rhetoric on immigration and tariffs dominated his 2024 campaign, and it’s clear his administration is prepared to follow through. But with Mexico and Canada pushing back hard, the path forward looks far from smooth.
Is this tough talk setting the stage for decisive action or a diplomatic showdown?
